TANNER, Ala. (WHNT) — Partnership for Animals in Athens Limestone (PAALS) hopes to reduce the number of homeless dogs and cats in Limestone County.

Spay and Neuter services can cost several hundred dollars, putting those procedures out of budget for some pet owners.Harvest-Monrovia Water Authority asking customers to voluntarily conserve water

“It’s almost daily,” PAALS President Anna Leigh Hurst said. “Someone has found a litter of puppies, found a stray cat with a litter of kittens, even just an adult dog or cat has been dumped on the side of the road.”

Hurst runs the animal rescue Creating Hope for Paws, where they help as many dogs and cats as possible, but when space runs out, they have to turn them away.

“We have an overpopulation problem in this community, for sure,” Hurst said.

“There’s currently not a low-cost spay and neuter program in this area,” Hurst said. “The closest one is in Huntsville.”

PAALS already has a building that will soon become a clinic.

“There are some renovations we have to do to this house to turn it into a clinic, but it’s not a lot,” Hurst said. “Our biggest thing is to raise the money.”

PAALS intends to open the clinic early next year.
